Campground Comfort Meets Outdoor Adventure: Stay at Bethel Outdoor Adventure
Whether you’re a thru-hiker looking for a quick stopover, a traveler heading to or from Maine’s coast, or a family planning a weekend escape, Bethel Outdoor Adventure offers a peaceful, riverside campground that caters to all kinds of campers. Nestled in Western Maine, just one mile from downtown Bethel and five miles from Sunday River, our campground is an affordable, laid-back basecamp for your next adventure.
⛺ Tent Camping: Rustic, Private, and Peaceful
If you’re craving fresh air and forest shade, our 10 private tent sites offer just the right amount of seclusion. These rustic sites have no hookups—making them ideal for campers looking to fully unplug and reconnect with nature. Surrounded by trees and just a short walk from the bathhouse, they’re a cozy choice for both solo campers and small groups.
Traveling with a crowd? Our 3 group tent sites are perfect for family reunions, scout troops, and friend getaways. These sites are tent-only (no pull-behinds), and give you space to spread out and enjoy the outdoors—together.
🚐 RV Sites: Convenient and Accessible
Our 20 RV sites all include water and electric hookups, and select sites offer sewer connections and 50-amp service for bigger rigs. A note to our RV guests: because our campground is older and the RV sites are close together, we can’t accommodate RVs over 40 feet in length.
Despite their tighter layout, these sites are a favorite for road-trippers looking for a convenient and scenic place to rest. The easy access to the river, downtown Bethel, and campground amenities makes them a great fit for travelers passing through or staying a few nights.
🧺 Amenities Designed for Simplicity
We’ve kept the essentials covered so you can focus on the fun:
Bathhouse with hot showers and flush toilets
Camp sink for dishes and water refill, located behind the bathhouse
Laundry machines inside the camp store
Camp store stocked with firewood, drinks, snacks, ice, and travel-sized toiletries
A quick heads up: firewood is only available during store hours, so be sure to plan ahead. You can also find firewood just one mile away at local gas stations and grocery stores.
🥾 A Haven for Appalachian Trail Hikers
If you’re hiking the AT and looking for a no-frills stop, we’ve got you covered. With hot showers, laundry, and access to town just a mile away, our campground is the ideal rest spot. You’ll find resupply options like a grocery store, Walgreens, and a 24-hour laundromat just down the road. Tent sites are budget-friendly, and the peaceful setting makes for a great night’s sleep.
🛶 Add an Adventure to Your Stay
Camping is only part of the fun—Bethel Outdoor Adventure also offers canoeing, kayaking, and tubing on the scenic Androscoggin River. Paddle past mountain views, spot local wildlife, and enjoy a peaceful float right from your “backyard.” It’s a favorite activity for families, friends, and solo travelers alike.
🐾 Pet-Friendly with Clear Guidelines
We’re proud to be a pet-friendly campground, but ask that all campers follow our Pet Supervision policy:
Dogs must be leashed or crated in public areas
Pets may not be left unattended at the campsite or in vehicles
Please be mindful of noise and clean up after your pet
By following these simple rules, you help create a comfortable experience for all campers and furry friends alike.
🔥 Campground Etiquette: Keep It Comfortable for Everyone
We want your time here to be restful and enjoyable—for you and your neighbors. Here are a few etiquette tips to help make that happen:
Respect quiet hours (10 PM–8 AM): Please keep noise low, especially near tent sites. No loud music or late-night gatherings.
Buy firewood locally: Maine prohibits bringing in outside firewood due to the risk of invasive pests. Firewood is available for purchase at our store.
Clean up your site: Follow the “leave no trace” principle—pack it in, pack it out.
Use facilities responsibly: Treat bathrooms, showers, and the laundry area with care.
Stay on trails and avoid riverbanks: Some areas have poison ivy—please use designated access points only.
Keep to your campsite: Respect others’ space and don’t cut through neighboring sites.
A little courtesy goes a long way in making this a relaxing place for everyone.

🕒 Check-In, Quiet Hours & General Policies
Check-in is between 1:00–6:00 PM. Please arrive during this window, and no check-ins after 8:00 PM out of respect for other campers.
Check-out is at 11:00 AM.
Quiet hours are strictly enforced from 10:00 PM to 8:00 AM. We want everyone to get a good night’s sleep—no music, loud voices, or campfires after 9:00 PM. If you’re asked more than once to quiet down, we reserve the right to ask you to leave.
🔥 Campfire Guidelines
A crackling fire under the stars is part of the camping experience—but safety and sustainability come first:
Use the designated fire rings only.
Don’t bring in outside firewood—it’s prohibited by Maine law due to pest and disease risks. Firewood is available for purchase at the campground store.
Fires must be out before bed. Flame height should stay under 24 inches. No fires may be started after 9:00 PM.
Please do not forage for wood or remove tree limbs from the property. We love our trees and we know you will too.
🚿 Facilities & Amenities
24-hour bathhouse access
Laundry room open 9 AM – 3 PM
Campground office open 9 AM – 5 PM
Please treat these shared spaces with care—leave them as you found them (or better!).
🏕️ Campsite Etiquette & Safety
Camping is all about sharing space with nature—and with each other. Here’s how to be a great neighbor:
Drive slowly! Speed limit is 5 mph. Watch for kids and pets.
Clean up after yourself. Use the trash bins provided and never leave garbage outside overnight. If excessive trash is left behind, a $150 cleanup fee may apply.
Respect your neighbors’ space. Stay within your reserved site. If you’re unsure of your site boundaries, our staff is happy to help.
Supervise children and pets. Kids under 16 must be at their site after 9 PM unless accompanied by an adult. Pets must be leashed and never left unattended.
No fireworks, motorbikes, or ATVs are allowed on the property.
Alcohol is allowed at your campsite only. Please drink responsibly and be courteous to those around you.
🐾 Pet Policy
We’re proud to be a pet-friendly campground, but we do require:
Leashes at all times in public areas
No leaving pets unattended at your site or in a cabin
Clean up after your dog immediately—waste must go in the dumpster
Bring proof of rabies and distemper vaccinations
If your pet becomes disruptive or aggressive, you may be asked to make alternate arrangements.
Failure to comply with our pet policy will result in removal from the campground with no refund.
🚶♀️ Trail & River Safety
Stay on designated trails. The riverbanks may look inviting, but they’re protected by the Shoreland Protection Act—and they’re full of poison ivy.
The only safe access to the river is at the designated boat take-out area under the large trees in the southwest corner of the campground.
Never climb down steep embankments. It’s dangerous and harms sensitive vegetation.
🧼 Keep It Clean, Keep It Green
We follow the “Leave No Trace” philosophy:
No dumping food waste on the ground
Scrape dishes before using sinks
Don’t wash vehicles at your site
Smokers: please keep it outdoors and away from shared buildings
We want to keep this place wild and beautiful for everyone—including the next group of campers.
🛶 Need Gear? Want to Get on the River?
Our adventure center offers tube, kayak, and paddleboard rentals, along with guided river trips. Whether you’re floating the Androscoggin or exploring nearby trails, we’ve got you covered. Make sure to ask about gear rental hours and trip launch times when you check in.
